ANP condemns killing of security supervisor in UoP

Saqlain Bangash killed by an accidental fire in UoP on Sunday, police said
PESHAWAR
The provincial president of Awami National Party (ANP) has condemned the murder of a security supervisor at the University of Peshawar’s international hostel and said that the provincial government and police should maintain a peaceful environment in the university and protect the lives of students and other employees.
According to police, Saqlain Bangash, a security supervisor for a private security company, was reviewing security on the campus when died due to accidental fire.
“Pistol of a security guard, namely Masood, went off and injured the supervisor. He was rushed to KTH but succumbed to his injuries,” said police.
Aimal Wali Khan has shown grave reservations over the incident and demanded safety of students, teachers and other employees of the university.
“Two weeks ago Professor Bashir Ahmad was killed by a security guard, yesterday security supervisor Saqlain Bangash was killed by a guard which is tragic and raises serious questions, “ he added. ANP leader has demanded a transparent probe of both incidents and condemned the killings.
Such incidents have created panic among the parents of the students learning at Islamia College University and University of Peshawar, especially female students who have been scared, he added and said that it was the responsibility of all of us to provide a peaceful educational environment for students to acquire knowledge.
Mr Aimal added that such incidents are having a negative impact on the academic environment within the universities.
The government and university management should take the concerns of teachers and student organizations seriously.
The management should take teachers, students and all other stakeholders into confidence and ensure a peaceful educational environment so that such incidents can be avoided in future. He further said that late Security Supervisor Saqlain Bangash was also a former official of Pashtoon Students Federation.
