In an apparent fulfillment of another condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the federal government has imposed an additional burden of Rs76 billion on electricity consumers.
The government is moving fast ahead to unlock the next tranche of an IMF loan program. The federal government has imposed an additional burden of Rs76 billion on electricity consumers. An additional surcharge of Rs3.39 per unit has been imposed on power customers.
The Power Division has issued an official notification of the surcharge. The surcharge will be levied on the consumers from March to June. The total surcharge will increase to Rs3.82 per unit.
Currently, electricity consumers are paying a surcharge of 43 paisa per unit. The surcharge will also be applicable to the K-Electric customers, the notification said.
