Priest’s delegation calls on KP Governor

A ten-member delegation of Priests of the Anglican Orthodox Church of Pakistan called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali here at Governor House Peshawar on Monday.
The delegation included Bishop Ernest Jacob, Pastor Razak Khokhar, Pastor Shahzad, Pastor Asif Parvez, Pastor Shabeel Nasir, Samson Jacob, Shaukat Parvez, Justin Jacob, Augustine Jacob and Razzaq Hazara.
The delegation informed that Christian community were facing problems in the marriage registration process in NADRA which has created several social problems for them.
The delegation asked the Governor Haji Gulam Ali that for the registration of marriage of the Christian community, pastors or churches should be included in the registration system of NADRA so that married Christian families could be saved from difficulties in traveling abroad.
Haji Ghulam Ali said that the constitution of Pakistan provides full protection to the rights of minorities.
He said that the role of the minority community for peace and stability and national development and prosperity is commendable.
The caretaker provincial minister Adnan Jalil was also present on the occasion. The delegation apprised the governor about some of the problems faced by the Christian community.
The delegation told the governor that they have been working for the welfare of the Christian community in Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province for the past 50 years.
The delegation also requested the construction of a boundary wall for the cemetery reserved for the Christian community in Khyber district.
The Governor immediately contacted Regional Manager NADRA and Deputy Commissioner of Khyber district and directed them to ensure the solution of the problems faced by the Christian community.
He said that the problems faced by the minorities will be solved on priority basis. The delegation appreciated the current government’s initiatives on religious and personal freedom for minorities in Pakistan and especially thanked the governor for taking interest in solving the problems.
Apart from this, Advisor to the Caretaker Chief Minister Jarar Hussain and Special Assistant Malik Maher Elahi also met the Governor and discussed various issues including the welfare of the people of the province.
