Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday expressed displeasure with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over ‘leisurely’ progress on mega corruption cases.
According to details, PAC’s meeting, with Noor Alam Khan in chair, discussed the audit report and objections of the National Food Security ministry’s Fiscal Year 2021/22.
Secretary to the Ministry of National Food Security, Chairman PARC, Auditor General of Pakistan and other officials attended the meeting.
At the outset, Secretary to Ministry of National Food Security told committee ministry’s basic problem was lack of financial resources. Secretary said less than one percent of ministry’s total budget was allocated for research purposes. Chairman Committee acquired record of research conducted in Cotton’s field for last ten years.
During the meeting, audit officials told committee that rules and regulations were allegedly violated by the National Academy of Professional Artists’ officials. To this, officials from the academy told meeting that funds are always invested by the board. Academy is run through its own code of conduct. Committee members on this ordered an inquiry of the whole matter and directed to share record with the National Assembly body.
Chairman Committee told members that he had acquired details of all accords done with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and officials from the Ministry of Finance will brief the committee in upcoming meetings.
During the meeting, the Chairman observed that PAC has identified financial malpractices of billions of rupees but the culprits get away with ‘judicial relief’. He expressed displeasure over NAB’s performance and said that the anti-graft body wasn’t performing its duties timely and efficiently.
