LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Sarfraz Cheema was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday for misuse of power. Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested Omar Cheema from his residence in Lahore. According to anti-corruption officials, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Omar Sarfraz Cheema was arrested from his residence early in the morning. Omar Sarfaraz Cheema has been accused of misusing his powers as governor and giving his sister a share by forging the family registration certificate. DNA
According to the family of the PTI leader, ‘unknown’ men in plain clothes took Omar Cheema into custody. They did not inform on which charges they took Omar Cheema into custody, the family added.
Protests erupted across Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) where he was present for biometric verification in two cases. Earlier, several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders were booked over vandalism in protests after the arrest of PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Mian Akram Usman has also been arrested in Lahore. He was arrested along with his brother Haroon Akbar on the charge of violent protests in Lahore following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
It is to be noted here that people in Lahore and other areas of the country had resorted to violent protests following the arrest of Imran Khan by Rangers from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
