The building which also houses the regional offices of the premier national news agency, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), presented a total scene of destruction. Private properties of Radio Pakistan and APP employees on the premises were ransacked and looted.
Only a day earlier, the mob protesting against the arrest of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, also burnt a monument of the Chaghi mountain on the Radio Pakistan’s building premises, which was erected to the commemorate the 1998 nuclear explosions by Pakistan.
The unbridled protesters after ransacking and looting the valuable office equipment and archives and entered the other floors of the office and set every room on fire. The previous attack by the mobsters should have wakened up the authorities to put in place enough security measures to protect the Radio Pakistan building. The arson attack has been condemned by various political leaders and civil society organizations. The authorities have launched an investigation to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.
