ISLAMABAD: Raza Rabbani, Pakistan Peoples Party senator, gave his opinion against the use of military courts to dispense justice and said criminal justice system should be used for this purpose. He gave these remarks after the all-powerful National Security Committee also agreed with decision to hold the trial of rioters under the Army Act and Officials Secret Act. In a statement on Wednesday, the PPP’s stalwart said, “no leniency should be shown towards those who attacked, burnt and looted public and defence installations under a political agenda.” He stressed that as civilians they should not be tried under Army act as it would raise questions on transparency and rights awarded to an individual to defend himself. The senator mentioned that military courts were established to deal with extremists at that time even though that too was wrong but civilians should not be prosecuted under military act.
