IHC bans airing of judges’ remarks in cases

ISLAMABAD: While hearing a plea for the recovery of former adviser to Prime Minister Shahzad Akbar’s brother Murad Akbar, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday banned the airing of judges’ remarks and said that only the written verdict of the court would be aired. The court in its order stated: “Only the written verdict of the court will be aired. Neither the name nor the picture of the judge will be displayed. It will be contempt of court otherwise.” The judge said: “I am writing to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra). If there is a violation, the license of the TV channel will be cancelled.” The additional attorney general, Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) and the interior secretary appeared in the court. “The file of the case is being sent to the chief justice.
