Hashim Khan KP Junior Squash Championship Boys Under 11, 13, 15 and 17 while Women Senior competitions got underway here at Qamar Zaman Squash Complex Peshawar on Monday.
Director General Sports Captain (Retd) Khalid Mahmood, squash legend and KP Squash Association Chairman Qamar Zaman, senior squash players, officials and a large number of players participating in the competition were present.
Paying tribute to, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the age group players should be given maximum opportunities. Provincial Squash Association is organizing competitions frequently, through which the players are coming forward and they are getting opportunities to show their best skills, he hoped.
He expressed the hope that the best players will come out of these players and they will shine not only at the national level but also at the international level,” DG Sports KP Khalid Mahmood said. Squash legend and chairman of KP Squash Association Qamar Zaman on this occasion said that they have fully focused on Junior Age Group Squash Championships, both of the Boys and Girls, so that the youngsters could get opportunities at the grassroots level to learn and deliver their best. He said, focusing on the grassroots level, we are trying to provide maximum opportunities for junior squash players to come forward so that they can rise to the best of their abilities. He said that these age group players are our future. “If attention is given to him from now, he can become World Champion in future and can bring back Pakistan’s lost glory in squash.
The first competition has been named after Hashim Khan, the aim of which is to make the new generation aware of their heroes, and the series of these competitions will continue in the future, he added.
