PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Women Wing provincial president Senator Rubina Khalid has termed July 5 the darkest day in the country’s political history. She said that a democratic government was overthrown by General Ziaul Haq’s imposition of Martial Law in 1977. Rubina Khalid said that undemocratic forces had trampled upon the freedom, sovereignty, and independence of the country on that fateful day. Senator Rubina Khalid said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed had built a dignified and nuclear Pakistan and set goals for development at a fast pace. PPP women wing president also paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the 1973 constitution and democracy and those who endured executions, whipping, imprisonment and torture for the restoration of democracy. The undemocratic forces had trampled upon the freedom, sovereignty, and independence of the country on that fateful day, she added and said that the PPP will take all possible steps to promote harmony and prosperity in the country.
