SSP Operations says 13,500 cops would perform security duty

Capital City Police have devised a comprehensive security plan to maintain peace during Muharram, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. According to the plan which was chalked out under the command of SSP Operation Haroon Rashid, 13,500 officers and jawans had been deployed to perform duties in the provincial capital,said a handout issued here on Tuesday.
As per details, a three-layer security would be provided to all important ceremonies, routes including funeral processions, Imambargahs will be cleared by the bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs.
Full-proof additional security measures have been taken for sensitive Imambargah as well as all sensitive mourning processions.
Special control rooms equipped with modern facilities have been established for city-wide monitoring including processions, Imambargahs, other religious places of worship and sensitive places from where all sensitive places will be monitored through 200 CCT cameras. In order to ensure the establishment of peace and order during Muharram, special meetings have been held with the scholars from all walks of life, business leaders, district administration, capital metropolitan and other institutions officials. Apart from conducting intelligence-based search and strike operations against the elements involved in anti-social activities, strict monitoring of the people staying in the inns,guest houses and hotels in the city has been conducted.
To make the security of the city fool-proof during Muharram, armoured vehicles will also be present at sensitive places while men of RRF, ATS, QRF, Ladies Police, BDU, Ababil Squad, City Patrolling Force will be deployed. Additionally, DSB personnel will also perform their duties to make security effective. Police force has been directed to enhance checking on all exit and entrance points of Peshawar andstrict monitoring of all the suspected persons entering the city has also been started.
It has also been decided toban the entry of Afghan refugees into the city during the month of Muharram.
At the command post,officers and officials from Reserve Police, BDU, Ladies Police, DSB, Ambulance,Rescue 1122, Fire Brigade, WAPDA, Northern Sui Gas, District Administration, Capital Metropolitan and other agencies have been alerted. The capital city police have also informed that mobile service will also be closed on 9th and 10th of Muharram in Peshawar.
