ISLAMABAD
The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has unanimously approved the results of seventh digital census of 2023.
Chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have unanimously stamped the census results during the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Ministry of Planning and Development briefed the CCI session on the digital census results for approval from the constitutional forum.
Earlier, the CCI meeting which was due to start at 11:00 am was deferred due to lack of quorum.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened the CCI meeting for the approval of new census. But the meeting did not take place as Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo could not reach the venue as his flight got delayed.
Bizenjo managed to reach the PM House Saturday afternoon after which the meeting resumes and gave its nod to the census outcome.
Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Caretaker CM Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Naveed Qamar, Saad Rafique, Qamar Zaman Kaira and ministers of law, information technology and communication attending the CCI session.
Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces were represented by the chief secretaries of the federating units. The Council of Common Interest taken the Chief Minister of Balochistan into confidence.
Chief Secretaries of four provinces attended crucial meeting.
The participants of the CCI meeting will proceed over a report compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The PBS has accomplished the exercise of holding the latest Population Census and compiled the results which have been forwarded to the CCI for seeking guidance/approval from the constitutional forum.
