Sit-ins would be staged outside governor houses in all four provinces: Prof Ibrahim
PESHAWAR
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), who has been on a sit-in demonstration since Monday outside the Governor’s House in Peshawar, continued their protest overnight and on Tuesday.
JI is seeking tangible relief to the masses and demanding of the federal government to reconsider the agreements signed by the successive governments in the country with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The senior leadership of the party on the first day of the protest asked the government to reduce prices of petroleum and electricity and announce a comprehensive relief package for inflation-hit masses of the country as early as possible.
The prices of essential commodities such as flour, sugar, petrol, diesel, and other edible items should be immediately reduced by the caretaker government, they demanded.
JI emir Sirajul Haq, who delivered a fiery speech on the first day of the sit-in, held Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) governments responsible for the ongoing economic and political instability in Pakistan.
The late approval of census in the country led the country toward the situation where timely elections become a core concern among the political parties and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he said.
Prof Ibrahim Khan, emir JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, while addressing the sit-in on the second day, criticized the senior leadership of the PDM and PTI for providing no relief to the public in their respective governments and asked the incumbent caretaker government to tell the International Monetary Fund that it could not put more burdens on the poor people.
Prof Ibrahim Khan said that his party would not accept any more increase in the prices of petroleum products and electricity.
He criticized KP Governor for failing to deliver and said that the governor should understand that he represents the province not a single political party.
Professor Ibrahim went on to say that it is the responsibility of the governor to keep the federal government informed about the issues of the province, adding that steps should be taken for removing unnecessary check-posts across the province and there should be no red zone in the country.
According to JI provincial information secretary, Jamat Ali Shah, the sit-in would continue for three days. He said the activities of the party from across the province joining the protest, adding that local leadership of the party from Mardan, Charsadda, Nowsehra, and southern districts will participate in today’s sit-in (Wednesday).
It is pertinent to mention here that JI has announced to stage sit-ins outside the governor’s houses in all the four provinces.
They called the protests a drive against the ongoing inflation and high prices of petroleum and electricity prices.
