Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel on Tuesday emphasized the importance of public awareness, stating that when the public is informed, holding governments accountable becomes easier.
Right to Information Commission held an awareness and awards ceremony in Peshawar, with Provincial Minister for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel stressed that access to information is a fundamental right of the people.
The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was praised for its commitment to good governance and transparency in public affairs, he said.
Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel informed that the RTI Commission had received over 25,000 applications, with more than 23,000 cases already resolved, demonstrating the efficiency of their operations.
Drawing from historical examples, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel cited the wisdom of Hazrat Umar (RA), who promptly answered a question about his attire when asked by a citizen.
He noted that such transparency should be the norm in governance.
He highlighted the Quran as a guiding light, stating, “The Quran is our beacon, and the people should be informed so they can evaluate government decisions and actions.”
Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel also expressed the need for trust in the system, which can only be achieved through merit-based appointments.
Referring to recent controversial MDCAT admission test, Kakakhel said that young individuals should be rewarded for their hard work and not face unjust treatment.
“The youth should receive fair compensation for their efforts,” he emphasized.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting transparency, information access, and meritocracy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s governance.
