20 couples tie knot in Landi Kotal

Twenty couples tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony held here in Kando Khel village of Landi Kotal district Khyber on Sunday.
The welfare activity was organized under the auspices of Shinwari Welfare Organization.
Beside office bearers of the organization, a large number of tribal elders, administration and police officials, political and welfare associations’ workers, relatives of the bride grooms and brides and local tribesmen participated in the moot.
The main attraction of the collective wedding ceremony was 20 young bride grooms wearing garlands on the occasion.
Beside cash, the couple was given dowry comprising commodities of daily usage including furniture and home appliances worth of Rs.0.2 million.
Haji Aslam Shinwari, the Central President of the welfare organization said that the aim of wellbeing activity was to assist the downtrodden families who could not afford to marry their children.
Although keeping in view high demands, this year, they financed the expenses of marriages of 20 couples that were selected from Shinwari, Afridi and Shelmani tribes.
According to the organizers selection had been made on age and elderly bridegrooms were given priority.
With limited sources they tried their best to serve the poor and deserving couples; he added and asked the philanthropists to join them in the noble cause.
Sadaqat Khan, a bridegroom from Pased Khel village, appreciated the righteous act of the organization and said those youth who could not bear expenses of marriage would certainly benefited from it.
Local people lauded the efforts of the organization and said such kind of activity motivates other philanthropists to work for the welfare of the poor segment of the society.
Food had also been arranged for the guests who attended the ceremony.
At the end relatives of the bride grooms and tribal youth expressed their jubilation by presenting a dance.
