PDA launches ‘Clean and Green’ drive in Peshawar

0.8m trees to be planted under the drive in Peshawar, says KP local govt minister

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) on Saturday kicked off “Clean and Green Peshawar” drive with resolve to plant around 0.8 million trees to tackle the challenges of environmental degradation.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, caretaker minister for local government Engineer Amir Durrani said that the local people, students and civil society will also be involved to make drive a successful initiative.
Secretary local government department Daud Khan, Commissioner Peshawar, director general PDA Muhammad Zubair, additional DG Riaz Ali, additional director general housing and others were also present.
Under the campaign, cleaning will be done before opening the market and after closing the market in Hayatabad and other areas to ensure cleanliness in the real sense.
Similarly, household waste will be collected in special bags and dumped at the designated place and the streets will be cleaned in time.
The caretaker minister said that the public will also be given regular awareness about sanitation to make this campaign successful.
Talking to media representatives, he said that all available resources will be used for the success of the cleanliness campaign.
Engineer Durrani furthered that eight lakh trees will also be planted in connection with the beautification campaign of Peshawar and the sewage system of the city will be improved.
The aim of involving citizens, students and civil society in this campaign is to make the campaign successful because the success of any campaign depends on the support of the people, he added.
