Swat: A 5-day community risk assessment workshop was conducted on restoring flood-affected infrastructure and building resilience in Panjigram Swat. The workshop, organized by the Community Resilience Activity – North (CRA-North), where 45 male and 15 female participants attended from Panjigram, Gulabad, and Dugiya villages in Bahrain. The workshop aimed to equip the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to natural disasters and build a resilient community.
Local community members, including elders and youth from three different villages (Gulabad, Panjigram, and Dugiya), participated in the workshops. The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Mian Shahid Ali (Chairman Tehsil Behrain) and Sub Engineer Mr. Maaz Ikram from the Irrigation Department as chief guests.
During this workshop, various topics were discussed and activities were conducted to address hazards such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, avalanches, GLOF, droughts, epidemics and pandemics, human-induced disasters, complex emergencies, and internally displaced persons. The five-day training session includes a Transit Walk, in which participants explored the community’s environmental and social resources, conditions, and systems through observation, inquiry, listening, and producing a transect diagram.
During the event, Chief guest Chairman Mian Shahid Ali expressed support for the activity and emphasized the importance of awareness in disaster management. He also mentioned that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is taking steps on disaster risks management and encouraged other organizations to work together for this cause. The community members appreciated the knowledge gained about disaster risk management and expressed readiness to work together towards minimizing the impact of natural hazards. Female participants highlighted the vulnerability of women and children during disasters and stressed the need to prioritize their safety.
Overall, Community Resilience Activity North (CRA-N) not only provide capacity building training but also include rehabilitating agricultural facilities affected by flood in Swat. This ensures that the community is well prepared to respond to natural disasters and overcome their effects.
