The provincial president of Awami National Party (ANP) Amil Wali Khan has said that all stakeholders should play their role in defusing tension in tribal district Kurram.
In a statement issued from the party’s headquarters Bacha Khan Markaz here on Saturday, he said that some elements were serving their vested interests in the name of Shia-Sunnu riots in the district.
“Innocent people are being targeted in the war of political interests going on in the name of religion,” he said and added that this bloodshed has been going on for a long time but unfortunately the government and concerned administration have observed pin drop silence over the issue.
ANP leader said that the Shia-Sunni issue has again put the peace of the district at stake, adding that the provincial government should take effective steps and stop killing of people and restore peace in the district as soon as possible.
The provincial government probably did not know that 12 people have been killed and many injured in Kurram district so far, he lamented.
Aimal Khan appealed to local leaders, political leaders and dignitaries to play their role in establishing peace. ANP would support peace in the areas and be ready for all kinds of cooperation for the establishment of peace, he added.
