Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), interior Abid Mujeed visited Khyber last day and examined facilities provided to the repatriated Afghan families in Landi Kotal and Torkham.
Flanked by Commissioner Peshawar Muhammad Zubair,Capital City Police Officer(CCPO)Peshawar Muhammad Ishfaq,Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Abdunasir,District Police Officer(DPO)Saleem Abbas Kulachvi,other administrative, police and Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA)Mr Abid Majeed inspected reception camp, set up at Charwazgai area of Landi Kotal for brief stay of Afghan families,returning back to their motherland.
The visiting high-up paid a visit to zero point of Pak-Afghan sharing border, Torkham and pedestrian terminal where the DC, Khyber briefed him of the prevailing situation and facilities provided to the Afghan families crossing back to Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the return of Afghanis is in progress and so far 62336 Afghan families, who resided in different areas of Pakistan illegally repatriated to their country, official sources said.
According to the United Nation latest figure, around 1.3 million Afghans are registered refugees in Pakistan and 880,000 more have legal status to remain, however the Federal Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti said a further 1.7 million Afghans were in Pakistan illegally.
It is to be mentioned here that it has been decided In an APEX committee that a massive crackdown will be launched against illegal foreign immigrants from the first of November and as per order they will be arrest, forcibly repatriated in addition to confiscation of their properties and businesses.
On the other hand, local administration asked 340 Afghan families, inhabited in Landi Kotal unlawfully to leave before, deadline, 31 October, 2023.
A local police official said that they visited various villages and informed illegal Afghanis to repatriate willingly or face the law.
