DG excise says ‘no incident of NCP vehicle smuggling’ in Swat

PESHAWAR: The provincial excise department denied on Thursday any incident of non-custom paid or unregistered vehicle smuggling in Swat district.
“Allegations that Khyber Pakhtunkh excise department is involved in non-custom paid or unregistered vehicle smuggling in the district are baseless,” director general Akmal Khattak said in a statement.
He said no such incident had happened during this month, saying news circulation on different platforms of social media regarding the smuggling of non-custom paid vehicle are “ baseless”.
Mr Akmal clarified that in the light of provincial Apex committee directives, the provincial excise department has initiated a process to collect the data of all the unregistered or non-custom paid vehicles in district Swat and Malakand division.
He said the process is underway across the division including district Swat, adding that a vehicle stopped by excise department SHO on suspicion in the district but after documents verification the vehicle was allowed to drive and released.
The Director general furthered that excise department has been mandated for profiling of the unregistered vehicles and take action against the unregistered vehicle across the province.
Akmal Khattak, director general, excise department KP, said some people used social media to spread “baseless allegations” about the smuggling of unregistered vehicles smuggling in Swat.
