Despite United States’ resistance, the resolution of immediate ceasefire in Gaza was approved by majority vote in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In UNGA, the resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was approved by an overwhelming majority.
153 votes were cast in favor of the resolution while 10 countries opposed the resolution, 23 countries did not participate in the voting process.
Since October 7, the number of martyrs in Gaza has exceeded 18,000, most of them are children and women.
During the General Assembly session, the countries that voted against the resolution regarding the cease-fire in Gaza included the Czech Republic, Austria, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Liberia and Micronesia, along with the United States, Israel.
It should be noted that the United States vetoed the resolution presented to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a ceasefire in Gaza a few days ago.
US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Robert Wood, said that the draft of the resolution is unbalanced and not consistent with the reality. This resolution cannot provide a solid solution to the issue. The United States strongly supports long-term peace in this issue. So that both sides, Israelis and Palestinians, can live with each other in peace and security.
US Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood added that we cannot support a resolution that calls for an unsustainable cease-fire that will only sow the seeds of a new war. Condemnation of the October 07 attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and took more than 240 hostages, should be included.
Even before this, the United States vetoed Brazil’s resolution for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in October this year. The resolution called for a humanitarian ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
