PESHAWAR
Unidentified attackers shot dead a transgender person near the Government College Peshawar Chowk area in the limits of Faqirabad police station here on Tuesday. It was the second such incident of targeting transgender persons in the limits of the same police station of Peshawar in less than a month.
The slain transgender person has been identified as Ghazal, Faqirabad police told reporters. Police have registered an FIR against the unknown attackers and initiated investigation. Meanwhile, the transgender persons of the provincial capital have threatened protest demonstrations across the province if the police failed to arrest the real culprits within 24 hours.
According to transgender activists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 90 transgender persons have been killed while 150 others have been subjected to various forms of physical violence in the province since 2015.
Most of the assaults are committed by friends and relatives of the transgender victims.
