HRCP unveils report on terrorism; violence against women

PESHAWAR: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has unveiled its annual report about incidents of terrorism, violence against women, honor killings, domestic violence and blasphemous acts that took place in the country during 2015.
The report claimed that terrorism and extremism has reduced to 40 percent in 2015 as compared to the year of 2014 in which 7,622 people were killed. The report added that 1000 people including 619 civilians were killed in 706 terrorism-related incidents during the last year.
About violence against women, the report informed that 1096 women were murdered in the name of honor, 939 women have become victims of sexual harassments, 279 faced domestic violence, acid thrown on 143 women while 833 women were kidnapped for various reasons.
Similarly, 88 men and 170 children, male and female were killed in honor-related incidents across the country, the report briefed.
324 condemned prisoners convicted in heinous crimes were executed in various jails of the country. 2108 people including hardcore criminals have been killed in police encounters in different parts of the country. 22 people were convicted under the blasphemy law and the cases were registered against them.
HRCP report also revealed that 25million children were out of schools in the year 2015, terming it an alarming situation that needed dire attention from the authorities concerned to react.
65000 names were removed from Exit Control List (ECL) after security agencies found them innocent, according to the report.
