Local Government Employees Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saturday demanded from the provincial government to restore the abolished taxes of local bodies, including one percent property tax and license fee.
Talking a group of gathering, the Provincial Leader Shaukat Ali Anjum, Shaukat Kayani, Haji Anwar Kamal Marwat, Haji Niaz Ali Khan, Sulaiman Hoti, Mehboob Allala and Raheel Ahmed in a joint statement said that the Tehsil Municipal Administrations have been paralyzed by the provincial government.
The government sacrifices TMEs in the name of providing relief to the people. In 2001, in the name of devolution of powers to the lower level, AD local government staff and former district councils staff and pensioners were handed over to TMEs.
They said that by setting up Rescue 1122, instead of accommodating the municipal fire brigade in Rescue 1122, they fed their own people and left the fire brigade staff with the TMEs. Earlier in the year 1999, the tax collection was abolished and the staff were left with the municipality, while again in 2013, the district councils were abolished and the staff, including pensioners, were handed over to TMEs, whose salaries and pensions were paid, they added.
Municipal bodies have not been able to ensure the payment of salaries and pensions to their employees and pensioners because the sources of income of TMEs have been reduced from time to time and the additional burden of employees of district councils, assistant directors of local government also on the tehsil municipal administrations.
