PESHAWAR
Awami National Party (ANP) has announced formation of a special Jirga to end tribal dispute in Kurram district and effect a ceasefire and restore peace in the district.
A statement issued from ANP’s headquarters Bacha Khan Markaz here on Saturday, the vice-provincial president of the party Shahi Khan Sherani will lead the Jirga.
The provincial president of ANP Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that instructions have been issued to Jirga members to play a role for establishing peace in the Kurram.
The other members of the Jirga members include former MPA Nisar Momand, Sheikh Jahanzada, former MNA Pir Haider, Ayaz Wazir, Nisar Ali Khan Dawar, former MPA Gul Sahib Khan Khattak, Shah Hussain Shinwari, Ayub Afridi (Dara Adam Khel). And Ibn Ali (Hungu).
The jirga will work together with the district organization of the party to establish peace and will meet the parties and play a role in resolving the issues through negotiations.
According to the district administration, the arm conflict between the two tribes of Kurram have claimed the lives of 11 persons, leaving more than 60 injured during the last four days.
It has been reported that the two sides used missiles and other heavy weapons to target each other’s positions.
A Jirga formed by jointly the district administrations of Hangu and Orakzai has also failed to restore peace through negotiation and effect ceasefire between the two tribes.
The clashes between the tribes of Boshehra and Maleekhel over a land dispute continued for the last four days which have claimed 11 people’s lives.
