Provincial Health Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah inaugurated Pakistan’s first 24/7 vaccine centre at Maulvi Ameer Shah Memorial Hospital in Peshawar and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Mardan on Pakistan Day.
Dr. Akram Shah from Maulvi G Hospital, Dr. Idrees DHO Peshawar, and other officials, including UNICEF representatives attended the inauguration ceremony held here on Tuesday.
The centre aims to provide the gift of health to the people of the province, ensuring round-the-clock access to vaccines, said an official handout. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the province’s vaccination efforts.
Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah emphasized the importance of vaccination in protecting public health and promoting well-being.
A separate counter will be available for preventive vaccinations for pregnant women, as well as separate counters for routine immunizations and newborns under the Birth Dose Initiative.
Additionally, a 24-hour counter will cater to travellers needing vaccinations for international trips, such as Hajj and Umrah.
“These vaccine centres will significantly improve routine immunization and help prevent epidemics. People can now access vaccination services for their children around the clock,” KP Health Minister said.
Qasim Ali Shah noted that when he assumed office, 13 districts had positive polio samples.
Currently, only three districts remain, and they are expected to be polio-free soon. The Health Minister also highlighted the successful efforts in reducing dengue cases to historic lows. He urged everyone to work together to prevent dengue outbreaks.
