Mayor Haji Zubair Ali thanked Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur for accepting his ‘10-point demands’, expressing determination to strengthen the local government system.
The Mayor had previously criticized the provincial government for not providing funds to local government representatives and not transferring powers.
However, after a meeting with the CM, he praised the decision to de-notify the transfer of administrative powers to the bureaucracy.
Mayor Peshawar said that the CM also had announced the allocation of funds for FATA’s local government representatives.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation between local government representatives and district administration.
Haji Zubair Ali emphasized that the provincial government should delegate powers effectively, allocating 60 percent to local government representatives and 40 percent to Members of Parliament. He criticized the recent withdrawal of powers as “cruelty and abuse.”
Ali highlighted the interdependence of local government representatives and district administration, stressing that they cannot function without each other.
He pointed out that the authority to provide essential services has been taken away, and even minor tasks like changing dustbins are no longer within the representatives’ purview.
In a meeting with the Chief Minister, the local government representatives presented their 12-point demands, of which 10 were immediately accepted.
Mayor Peshawar said that the Chief Minister assured that all issues would be addressed through mutual agreement by September 14.
