LANDIKOTAL(INP): A girl and her mother drowned in Kabul River in remote Shalman area of Landikotal tehsil in Khyber Agency, sources said on Thursday.
The sources said that 12-year-old Afsana and her mother were crossing a bridge over the river in Dorma Kor in Loey Shalman when Afsana slipped into water.
“As the teenage girl fell down into river, her mother Aleema Gul also dived into the water to rescue her daughter,” a resident told Media by phone.
He said when locals heard about the incident, they rushed to the site and started rescue work. After several hours, the body of the girl was found while that of her mother could not be recovered till filing of this report.
