Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fazal Moqeem Khan said the role of media is critical in highlighting issues of the business community and downtrodden segments of the society.
The SCCI chief said being the fourth pillar of the state, importance and role of media is highly important.
He eulogized sacrifices and services of journalists by charging professional obligations.
Moqeem said journalists have played a crucial role in improvement and reforms of the society, which is exemplary.
He added SCCI gives due worth to sacrifices and services of the media, which had raised business community issues in and outside the parliament, and struggled with traders by shoulder to shoulder for availing genuine demands and rights, terming them as highly laudable.
Fazal Moqeem was speaking to a delegation of journalists led by Peshawar Press Club president Arshad Aziz Malik, held at the chamber house here on Saturday.
Members of the delegation include PPC General Secretary Irfan Musazai, Vice president Tayyab Usman, Finance Secretary Rizwan Sheikh, senior member Farman Lala, senior photojournalist Muhammad Shahzad and others.
SCCI senior vice president Abdul Jalil Jan was also present in the meeting.
It is worth mentioning here that it is the first time in the history of the chamber that PPC president along with cabinet members visited SCCI and congratulated the newly elected cabinet.
The move of the PPC cabinet was highly appreciated by SCCI and members and praised the efforts and struggle of the media in highlighting business community issues.
Fazal Moqeem said media is part and parcel for the business community, adding that the role and importance of media has increased further while keeping in view the prevailing circumstances.
The SCCI chief said the business community is being faced with enormous difficulties owing to current uncertainty and economic instability.
He said business and industry growth has sharply slowed down in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the prevailing scenario, Moqeem stressed the need for the announcement of a fiscal relief package for the business community to revive economic and trade activities and halt the rapid flight of capital and brain drain from K-P.
Earlier, the PPC president Arshad Aziz Malik and cabinet members formally congratulated the newly elected cabinet of the SCCI.
