The elementary and secondary education department has announced plans to take action against primary schoolteachers participating in ongoing protests that have led to the closure of schools across the province.
According to a letter issued by the elementary and secondary education department KP, instructions have been dispatched to all District Education Officers (DEOs) throughout the province.
The directive mandates that any officer found to have locked government schools and remained absent from their duties due to protest should be reported for suspension.
“I am directed to refer to the subject cited above to convey that they issue suspension orders of all those teachers who are involved in protest and due to whom schools are closed since 05/11/2024 and submit a report to this office by tomorrow positively,” the letter said.
It should be noted that primary school teachers across the province are currently protesting, demanding the fulfillment of the up-gradation promised to them. The protests, led by the President of the All Primary Teachers Association (APTA), Azizullah Khan, aim to pressure the government into action.
According to APTA, the previous provincial government had approved the up-gradation of primary education at the cabinet level, but the decision has yet to be implemented.
Teachers have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, stating that they will not compromise on their rights.
