PESHAWAR
A week-long training program themed “Professional Competence” commenced for young lawyers from Balochistan at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy, Peshawar. A total of 29 male and female lawyers from various districts of Balochistan are participating in the program aimed at enhancing their skills and professional knowledge.
The inaugural ceremony featured Justice Ijaz Anwar, Senior Judge of the High Court of Peshawar and Vice Chairman of the Judicial Academy, as the chief guest. Also present were Barrister Ikhtiar Khan, Registrar of the High Court of Peshawar; Jahanzeb Shinwari, Director General of the Judicial Academy; Ziaur Rehman, Dean of Faculty; Dr. Qazi Attaullah, Senior Director of Research and Publications; and other academy officers.
In his welcome address, the Director General of the Academy outlined the objectives of the training, emphasizing its focus on equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for their legal profession. He highlighted the vital role of lawyers in society and the justice system, expressing hope that the program would significantly improve their professional capabilities.
Addressing the participants, Justice Ijaz Anwar congratulated them on their selection for the training. He stressed the importance of knowledge and hard work in achieving professional excellence, urging lawyers to continually enhance their skills to ensure effective delivery of justice. He noted that the training would not only expand their knowledge but also refine their conduct and attitude, enabling them to perform their roles more effectively.
During the introductory session, Dean Faculty Ziaur Rehman elaborated on the program’s curriculum, which includes professional etiquette, legal ethics, judicial precedents, civil and criminal case management, inheritance and succession laws, workplace harassment issues, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), gender-based violence, family laws, forensic evidence, and Quranic rulings. Participants will also be trained in recording evidence, as well as the processes of appeal and review.
The program has been designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for young lawyers, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of their profession and contribute meaningfully to the justice system.
