Former provincial sports minister Syed Aqil Shah has been elected President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wrestling Association for the next four years and Naimat ullah has been elected Secretary General.
In this regard, a meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wrestling Association General Council was held under the chairmanship of Syed Aqil Shah in which officials of all divisions of the province participated.
The meeting unanimously elected former provincial sports minister and president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah as the president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wrestling Association for the next four-year term. Other office bearers include Haroon Rashid as senior vice president, Zahid Khan, Khalid Habib and Alina Riaz as vice presidents, Naimat ullah as general secretary, Naveed-ur-Rehman, Uzair Ali Shah and Nazish Ali as associate secretaries, Wasim Afzal as finance secretary, Muhammad Umar, Sibghat ullah, Muhammad Asif Khan and Nasir Ali as members of the executive council.
The meeting was attended by Zulfiqar Butt from the Pakistan Wrestling Federation, Badminton Secretary Amjad Khan from the Provincial Olympic Association and syed Jafar Shah from the Directorate General of Sports as an observer.
Addressing the meeting, the newly elected president Syed Aqil Shah said that all possible steps will be taken to promote the sport of wrestling in the province, and selection of players on merit will be ensured for the selection of the best team for the Quaid-e-Azam Games and the National Wrestling Championship.
He expressed hope that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players will definitely win medals in the Quaid-e-Azam Games and National Wrestling Championship thanks to their good performance. He said that open trials for the Quaid-e-Azam Games will be held on November 26 at the Pir Bala Wrestling Club in which all under-22 players can participate, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players will also participate in the National Wrestling Championship, which will be held in Gujranwala from December 7.
