Shinwari Welfare Organization General Secretary and ex-Fata squash federation president Asad Khan Shinwari on Tuesday said that sports activities was the key weapon which could be used to discourage social evils and motivate youth towards healthy activities.
Asad Khan Shinwari said this at the opening ceremony of All Pakistan junior squash championship ship held at Pakistan Air Force(PAF) squash Complex.
Besides Shinwari Welfare Organization office bearers including vice president Haji Zalid Khan Shinwari,Joint secretary Raz Muhammad Shinwari,Press Secretary Ashrafuddin Pirzada,former three times world squash champion Qamar Zaman, legend Mohibullah Khan, Group Captain Irfan Asghar, Director of the Pakistan Squash Federation,Wing Commander Yasir Aziz, Assistant Director of the PAF, Mansoor Zaman, General Secretary of KP Squash, Sajjad Khalil, Associate Secretary of KP Squash,Chief Organizer and Senior Coach Munawar Zaman.
Chief guest of the opening ceremony was president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association Dawood Khan.
Talking on the occasion Asad Khan Shinwari said that sport was the best option to engage youth in healthy activities. He said in current times youth were being motivated to use drugs that destroy their life. He urged philanthropists t9 come forward and support sportsmen in Pakista.
Qamar Zaman, Chariman said that 500 children from all parts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were under training at his squash complex. He said in two categories (11 age and under 17) players were participating in national championship. He said more than More than 28 children from Sindh, Balochistan,Punjab and ex-Fata have qualified after qualifying rounds. He added that Wapda, Army and air force players were also qualified for the event.
“Those qualified in national level including Norman Khan, the runner up of British junior held 2024, was also among the players in the championship.
He said those get first,second and third position in the championship would be awarded with cash prizes.
Qamar Zaman said top 20 players in the event would be eligible to participate in international tournaments in the coming future.
He said it was an unfortunate that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa squash association did not get financial support from the government since last three years. He thanked Shinwari Welfare organization and Asad Khan Shinwari for his financial support who sponsored the event.
The event would be continue January 7 to 10 at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex Peshawar.
