Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered to devise and implement a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation program for drug addicts in the province’s prisons under the public agenda of the KP government.
According to an official handout, as part of the initiative, dope tests will be conducted across all jails in the province.
A directive has been issued to formulate a joint plan for the treatment of drug-addicted prisoners, which will be submitted for approval by the provincial government.
During a meeting led by Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud, officials were briefed on the three phases of the Drug-Free Peshawar campaign and ongoing treatment efforts.
Secretary to Commissioner Dr Shabbir Ahmed Akash and District Officer Social Welfare Noor Muhammad have been designated as focal persons for the initiative.
The plan will be developed in coordination with rehabilitation center administrators and prison authorities before being presented to the provincial government. According to the statement, visits to rehabilitation centers have also been conducted to assess treatment methods for drug addicts.
