Mayor Peshawar Haji Zubair Ali has strongly criticized the provincial government’s handling of public issues, particularly in Peshawar.
He lamented that the “City of Flowers” has been abandoned in a whirlpool of filth and problems, while the provincial government has rendered the local government system practically inactive.
In a statement issued , Mayor Zubair Ali expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of affairs in Peshawar.
He stated that the weakening of local government institutions has left citizens struggling with unresolved problems, worsening traffic congestion, and ongoing protests from various sectors, including schools. Meanwhile, the provincial government remains silent and unresponsive.
Highlighting the traffic woes, he pointed out that major roads—including Ring Road, Hayatabad, University Road, Warsak Road, Saddar Road, Charsadda Road, and Gulbahar—are in a state of chaos, causing significant delays for office workers and students.
He also criticized the ineffective anti-encroachment efforts, stating that authorities merely conduct photo sessions without taking meaningful action.
The mayor asserted that if the local government system were fully functional, the burden on the provincial government would be reduced by 80 percent, leading to visible improvements in public services.
He emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure development, including overhead bridges and underpasses, which have yet to be constructed in the city despite being essential.
Mayor Zubair Ali further questioned the utilization of the provincial budget, stating that while pensioners and other affected groups continue to protest, the government has failed to address their grievances.
He condemned the provincial authorities for rendering the local government powerless, likening the situation to tying its hands and feet while expecting it to compete in governance.
