Only Five percent students of Government Girls High Secondary School (GGHSS), Landi Kotal have received free syllabus books, provided by the provincial government that suffered their studies, female students’ complaint.
Hina Khan classes( 6th),Tanha(8th )and Tumiha(9th ) of GGHSS said that contrary to the government policy of providing free books, a number of students have got the books so far that is equivalent to depriving them of their basic right of getting free education.
They added that in 10 grade, subject books of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Islamiat have not been supplied even to a single student.
In the same way they added in 9th class, out of 50 students only 09 have got books of Maths, Physics, Pak- Studies and Biology while Chemistry and English books have been given to 18 and 20 learners respectively.
They have demanded immediate supply of the subject’s books to continue uninterrupted studies in the institution.
Miss Salma, Principal of the school said that ironically, Landi Kotal locates at the western end of the district Khyber therefore all girls schools in Jamrud and Bara collect their due share in the books in early hours and the whole deficiency of the study materials rest in girls schools Landi Kotal including GGHSS.
If students lack books, how can a teacher teach them, she questioned.
Number of applications have been lodged in the district education office (female) Khyber for provision of books but to in avail, she added.
When District Educational Officer (female) Shazia Nawaz was contacted on the matter she said that they have received 40% books of their demand from the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and distributed it equally in all three tehsils including Bara, Jamrud and Landi Kotal.
She maintained that they have directed all the Principals, headmistress and other female staff to collect books from outgoing or promoted female girl students and distribute it in the new students to cover deficiency of the learning materials.
Demand for books has been forwarded to the provincial government and as soon as they supply it, they will give it away to the rest of the students, she remarked.
It is to be stated here that approximately 1010 girls students study in the GGHSS Landi Kotal with only 22 of female teaching staff.
