Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Cultural Wing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday announced the formal establishment of the party’s cultural wing in the province for the first time.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Saeeda Bibi, President of the PML-N Cultural Wing KP; Naushaba Bibi, Senior Vice President; Zahir Shah, Vice President; and other office-bearers shared the objectives and future plans of the newly formed wing.
PML-N provincial chapter leaders stated the initiative was aimed at giving representation to all segments of society, including the transgender community, artists, and individuals involved in cultural professions.
They revealed that a transgender representative has been appointed as General Secretary, a move they described as a step toward inclusive representation and equality.
“We are grateful to our leader and former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and KP PML-N President Engineer Amir Muqam for recognizing the need for such a platform in KP,” said Saeeda Bibi.
The leaders announced that the formal inauguration of the cultural wing’s office will take place in the coming days, providing a space where individuals from all cultural backgrounds can come together to discuss issues and develop solutions.
They emphasized that the wing would actively raise voices at all relevant forums to address the concerns of the transgender community, artists, singers, actors, musicians, and others associated with the cultural sector. The wing also plans to recommend legislative measures to ensure the protection of rights for these groups.
A key goal, they said, was to establish dedicated funds to support artists facing financial hardships.
