A large number of workers and leaders of the Pakhtun Student Federation (PSF) and Awami National Party(ANP) senior leaders participated in the workers convention held at the residence of former party president Wali Khan Shinwari in Khyber district on Tuesday.
ANP Khyber district president Abdul Raziq Afridi was the chief guest on the occasion. Other key participants included Tehsil Bara president Wahid Afridi, Suleman, Manzoor Afridi and Subhan Shinwari.
During the convention, several individuals, including Haroon, Hassan, Roohul Ameen, Najeeb, Qasim, Zaryab, Salman and Moheeb, announced their joining the ANP party.
Addressing the gathering, Abdul Raziq Afridi said that during its 2008 government, ANP made significant contributions to youth development and democratic reforms, especially the 18th Constitutional Amendment. He said anti-democratic forces have consistently opposed the amendment, but ANP remain committed to its protection.
He criticized the closure of government schools in Khyber, calling it part of a deliberate policy to harm Pashtun society. He said government officials were using the excuse of limited funds to mislead the public.
Afridi reiterated that ANP would continue to follow the vision of Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan and work to ensure that the region’s natural resources benefit the local population. He also opposed any move to hand over local resources to outsiders and said ANP would resist any legislation that goes against the interests of the region.
He said ANP had always opposed foreign-backed wars and would continue to work for peace in the region.
