On the special directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, a first-of-its-kind drug rehabilitation center has been established inside the Central Jail Peshawar, according to the Chief Minister’s Spokesperson, Faraz Ahmed Mughal.
An entire block within the jail has been dedicated to the rehabilitation and treatment of drug addicts, he said and added that currently, around 40 individuals were undergoing treatment at the facility.
Mr Mughal in a statement shared that the initial duration of the treatment program was a minimum of three months. The rehab center offers a clean and supportive environment, with recreational activities, exercise facilities, Islamic teachings, and an open-air gym to support the holistic recovery of patients.
As part of the broader initiative for a drug-free Peshawar, Chief Minister Gandapur has launched multiple anti-drug campaigns. So far, more than 3,800 individuals have received treatment through these campaigns.
In an earlier campaign, the Chief Minister also provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to a recovered patient and announced plans for technical training and employment opportunities for rehabilitated individuals.
CM-KP spokesperson furthered that the free treatment for drug addicts was now being offered under the Sehat Card Plus program, ensuring accessible healthcare and recovery services across the province.
