Mayor of the Capital Metropolitan Government Peshawar, Haji Zubair Ali, has taken immediate and serious notice of irregularities and the participation of fake bidders in the annual tender process of the General Bus Stand (Hajji Camp), ordering the cancellation of the entire tender.
According to a statement, the matter pertaining to the tender for the General Bus Stand was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Zubair Ali and attended by relevant stakeholders.
It was unanimously decided that strict legal action will be initiated against individuals and facilitators who submitted fake or unverified bids.
The statement said the mayor announced the formation of a formal inquiry committee to investigate the matter and hold the responsible parties accountable.
Mayor Zubair Ali also directed the immediate transfer of all collected funds to the government account and the re-advertisement of a new, transparent, and merit-based tender.
He emphasized that no illegal occupation or misuse of the Metropolitan Government’s limited resources will be tolerated.
“The General Bus Stand is a key source of revenue for us and must be protected from corrupt practices at all costs. Ensuring transparency in public tenders is our collective responsibility,” the mayor stated.
He further revealed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been approached to conduct an independent investigation into the non-transparent tendering process.
According to reports, several contractors submitted bids online without the required call deposit, prompting the mayor to halt the entire process immediately.
Mayor Zubair Ali also affirmed that he will personally oversee all future tendering activities to ensure transparency, accountability, and the elimination of corruption.
