Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory predicting heavy rains across the province from July 5 to 11, advising residents and authorities to take immediate precautionary measures.
According to the PDMA, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the upper districts including Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral (Upper and Lower), Dir (Upper and Lower), Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas Kohistan, Torghar, as well as central districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Charsadda.
The alert also mentions a heightened risk of flooding in rivers and canals across Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, and Hangu districts.
In the southern plains—Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan—heavy rainfall is also anticipated. The PDMA has warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, and DI Khan.
Flooding is particularly expected in the Chitral, Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers, especially in the upper regions of the province. Moreover, the risk of landslides looms large in hilly districts such as Abbottabad, Battagram, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, and Mansehra.
The PDMA has issued directives to all district administrations to activate emergency response plans. Rescue teams and emergency personnel have been instructed to stay on high alert, while essential equipment and resources should be mobilized in advance.
Local populations in vulnerable areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions. Tourists, especially in northern districts, are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecasted period.
The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center is fully operational and the public can report emergencies by calling the helpline 1700.
