Islamabad: (July 07, 2025) – Shifa International Hospitals Limited (SIHL) has issued a firm denial of recent allegations claiming the hospital retained a deceased patient’s body for seven days while charging significant fees, labeling the claims as “baseless, misleading, and deplorable.” The controversy, which emerged over the weekend, has sparked online discussion, prompting the hospital to respond decisively.
The allegations, first reported on July 05, 2025, suggest that SIHL charged Rs. 100,000 per day—totaling Rs. 700,000—for keeping a deceased patient’s body for a week after the patient had passed away elsewhere. The claim, linked to a parliamentary health committee session, quickly spread across social media, raising concerns about the hospital’s practices.
In a press statement released today, SIHL categorically rejected the allegations. “These claims are entirely false and without any factual foundation,” a hospital spokesperson stated. “We urge members of the media to exercise due diligence and uphold their ethical and professional responsibility to verify information before disseminating unsubstantiated allegations.” The spokesperson expressed disappointment that no inquiries were made to the hospital prior to the story’s circulation, underscoring SIHL’s commitment to “ethical, compassionate, and professional care in full compliance with all applicable laws and medical codes of conduct.”
The hospital invited media inquiries, directing them to its official communications desk, and reaffirmed its openness to genuine feedback. This response aligns with SIHL’s established reputation, supported by its Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation since 2017.
