Heavy rains have lashed Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, breaking the heatwave and bringing much-needed relief to residents. However, the downpour has also caused flooding in several areas, leading to fatal incidents.
According to reports from different districts on Sunday, in Khyber district, flash floods swept away two children where rescue operations are underway to locate them. Meanwhile, a child was injured after being struck by lightning in Ali Masjid and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The rains, accompanied by strong winds, began in Khyber, Nowshera, and Peshawar districts, with heavy showers reported in Landi Kotal, Jamrud, Bara, and surrounding areas. The downpour brought a sudden drop in temperature and turned the weather pleasant, lifting the spirits of heat-stricken residents. However, flash floods hit several parts of the Pak-Afghan highway, creating a situation.
In Nowshera, the stormy winds and rain disrupted power supply in various areas. Reports also indicate fallen trees and signboards due to the intense weather. Power outages have caused significant inconvenience for the residents.
The Malakand region, including Batkhela, Dargai, and Sakhakot, also experienced rainfall, breaking the heat and humidity. However, as soon as the rain started, multiple power feeders tripped, adding to public difficulties.
According to the Meteorological Department, the current spell of rain is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
