Chief Secretary to lead 11-member committee on Swat tragedy

PESHAWAR: In response to the tragic incident of tourists drowning in Swat, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Establishment Department has announced formation of an 11-member Provincial Oversight Committee, to be led by the Chief Secretary.. According to the official notification on Sunday, the committee has been formed to ensure implementation of the recommendations put forward by the inquiry committee and the proposals approved by the Chief Minister. The committee will regularly submit progress reports to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on a monthly basis.
Key responsibilities assigned to the committee include protection of rivers, installation of an early warning system and implementation of the monsoon emergency plan
Additionally, departments such as Local Government, Tourism, and Minerals have been given specific responsibilities within the committee. The notification also mandates that the committee must convene at least once every 15 days.
The formation of this committee marks a critical step in ensuring accountability and proactive disaster management in the wake of the Swat tragedy.
