The Standing Committee on Industries and Production met this afternoon under the Chairmanship of Syed Hafeezuddin, MNA in Committee Room No. 7, Parliament House, Islamabad.
2. The Committee expressed displeasure on the decision of the Federal Government regarding the closure of Utility Stores Corporation. The Committee was of the view, it is the breach of privilege of Members of National Assembly and the Committee, as Minister In-charge made the commitment on the floor of the House not to wind up Utility Stores across the Pakistan. However, the Committee decided to discuss the issue in detail as early as possible.
The Committee also directed the Secretary M/o Industries and Production to submit a report within 24 hours to the Committee regarding concerns of Members about the future of employees, and to suggest how rights of the employees will be safeguarded in order to protect the future of their families.
3. The Committee further discussed the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills Karachi. The Secretary, M/o Industries and Production briefed that Pakistan and Russia has signed an agreement to revive the Pakistan Steel Mills Karachi, according to which a feasibility report will be prepared soon. Further, he told the Committee that after feasibility report we will be able to decide how to revive Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). However, The Committee appreciated the efforts were made by the Ministry.
4. The Committee was also briefed on the matters related to Industrial/Commercial Tariff charged by K-electric. After detailed deliberation, the Committee decided that the matter will be discussed further in upcoming meeting of mediation Committee. The Committee directed that K-Electric should compile the electricity related cases in a single list with clear bifurcation, including cases of theft, overbilling, meter tampering and tariff related issues.
5. The MNAs namely Mr. Shahid Usman, Ms. Kiran Imran Dar, Ms. Romina IKhurshid Alam, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Ms. Naz Baloch, Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Mr. Muhammad Saad Ullah, Rana Atif, Mr. Muhammad Ali Sarfraz, Mr. Muhammad Arshad Sahi, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, and the Secretary M/o Industries & Production, besides other senior officials of the ministry and its attached departments attended the meeting.
