GAZA
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened dramatically, with reports indicating a significant increase in casualties from Israeli attacks and a rising death toll from starvation. In the past 24 hours, at least 135 Palestinians were killed and 771 injured in strikes across the enclave, with 87 of the dead reportedly being aid seekers.
The number of deaths from starvation and malnutrition has also climbed, with five new confirmed cases bringing the total to 193 since the conflict began in October 2023. Of these, 96 are children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The UN has warned that the limited availability of fuel and the denial of entry for emergency medical teams are severely impacting life-saving operations.
The crisis is intensifying amidst international alarm over Israel’s potential plan for the full occupation of Gaza. Speaking to the UN Security Council, UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca called the plan “deeply alarming” and warned of “catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians.”
Jenca’s concerns were echoed by European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera, who described the plan as an “unacceptable provocation” and, in an interview, likened the situation to genocide.
In response to questions about Israel’s potential actions, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the decision was “pretty much up to Israel” and that his administration’s focus was on providing food aid to the region.
The ongoing conflict has now resulted in at least 61,158 deaths and 151,442 injuries among Palestinians since October 2023.
