PESHAWAR
The second meeting of the Advisory Council of the Center for Sustainable Development and Innovation (CSDI) at UET Peshawar was held here the other day. Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar chaired the meeting of the Advisory Council as its Convener. In his remarks, Dr. Sadiq Khattak said, Pakistan is at a critical juncture in its fight against climate change.
Referring to the recent devastating floods across the country, he urged that the future of our generations and our way of life depends on the choices we make today regarding sustainability. He further added, we must mobilize our resources immediately. It is time to act, not to deliberate anymore. CSDI, he stated, is not just a research initiative, but a movement for a resilient and sustainable Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Mansoor Professor civil engineering (Focal Person CSDI) presented six themes based on key priority areas. The meeting after a thorough deliberation finalized core research areas and outlined the roadmap for future initiatives including, “policy, governance and continuing education”,” green energy and circular economy”, “climate change and disaster mitigation”, “water sustainability” and “entrepreneurship and green startups”.
He said, CSDI will be instrumental in fostering innovative solutions in these areas while aligning the university’s research efforts with the UN SDGs.
The meeting was attended by distinguished members from academia, industry, and the development sector including, Mr. Hamid Raza Afridi (former UNDP Advisor), Ms. Afshan Khan (Fast Move Packages), Dr. Farida Anjum (Director, Agriculture Research Institute, Peshawar), Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman (University of Peshawar), Mr. Kashif Zahoor (Provincial Coordinator and Technical Advisor Climate Change, GIZ), Dr. Asif Jalal (SDG Reporting Expert), and Dr. Nadeem Ullah (Water Sustainability Specialist). From UET Peshawar, participants included Prof. Dr. Nasru Minullah (Director ORIC), Dr. Safdar Marwat (Director QEC), Dr. Jamil (Department of Chemical Engineering), Dr. Imran and Dr. Shamaila Farooq (Director Media). Other members of Advisory Council include Dr. Sagheer Aslam (SDG’s Research Expert) and Prof Dr. Javaid Rabbani Khan (GIKI Sawabi)
The Advisory Council members acknowledged and highly appreciated UET Peshawar’s leadership role in spearheading sustainability-focused initiatives and reaffirmed their support in advancing climate-resilient solutions
