The federal government has formally de-notified several Afghan refugee camps across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as part of the ongoing repatriation and deportation efforts, following an official order issued by the Ministry of Interior & Narcotics Control.
“All lands within the de-notified area will be handed to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/ Deputy Commissioner of the concerned district by respective Provincial CAR with written handing-taking over,” the notification said.
A notification issued by the Ministry announced the immediate closure and de-notification of camps located in the districts of Haripur, Chitral, and Dir Upper.
Under the directives, all lands within the denotified areas will be handed over to the government of KP, through the respective Deputy Commissioners (DC), by the Provincial Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees (CAR). The process will include formal written handing-over procedures.
In addition to land, all non-movable assets within the camps are to be transferred to the provincial government, again via the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts. The notification emphasizes that these assets must be safeguarded and used productively under the supervision of local authorities for the benefit of local communities.
The move comes amid the government’s broader efforts to manage undocumented migration and ensure organized repatriation of Afghan nationals living in Pakistan without legal status.
