Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) organized a Free Breast Cancer Screening Camp under the supervision of qualified doctors in connection with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event witnessed active participation from students and doctors. On the occasion, RMI also announced a 50% discount on mammograms throughout October to facilitate maximum participation of women.
According to Prof. Dr. Sadia Nazeem, organizer of the camp, most of the cases being reported nowadays are among young women between the ages of 25 and 30.
She added that patients usually visit hospitals only after noticing physical changes or experiencing pain. Based on RMI’s 2023 research, the majority of cases were found among women under the age of 40. RMI’s Breast Care Unit is staffed entirely by female professionals, including radiologists and radiographers.
RMI was the first healthcare facility in the region to install a high-quality mammogram machine in 2017 and also provides biopsy facilities, enabling the early detection of even the smallest lumps.
Dr. Sadia further noted that around 10% of breast cancer cases are genetic. In the recent free camp, a total of 100 women were examined in a single day, out of which 3 were diagnosed with breast cancer.
RMI has urged women to take full advantage of this free camp and discounted services and encouraged families and communities to spread awareness so that more women can benefit from timely diagnosis and treatment.
It is important to note that breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide. Experts emphasize that the disease often progresses silently, and regular screening and checkups before the appearance of symptoms are the key to a healthier life.
