ISLAMABAD
On the direction of the Prime Minister, Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R), Amir Muhyuddin, chaired a high-level meeting to address the issue of inter-provincial movement of wheat seed.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries of Provincial Agriculture and Food Departments, Director Generals Agriculture, and senior officers of MNFS&R.
Participants discussed reports that the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed was being hindered despite seed companies fulfilling all agreed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Provincial representatives clarified that all seed consignments carrying the required movement documents were being allowed, adding that instructions had been issued to food department authorities to facilitate seed transportation on a priority basis.
To ensure consistent monitoring, a high-level supervisory committee chaired by the Secretary MNFS&R was constituted. The committee will meet every Wednesday to review the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed.
Additionally, it was decided that the Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department (FSC&RD) will depute its officers at check-posts along inter-provincial routes connecting Punjab with other provinces. These officers will assist food department officials in timely verification and facilitation of wheat seed movement across provinces.
